If you played Skyrim, you should remember Companions. They were a group of fierce warriors who could transform into Werewolves to defeat their enemies. Elder Scrolls Online also gives you an opportunity to become a werewolf.

If you played The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, you should remember Companions. They were a group of fierce warriors who could transform into Werewolves to defeat their enemies. Elder Scrolls Online also gives you an opportunity to become a werewolf and feel the power of these mighty monsters.

Werewolves are very strong and gruesome creatures, something between a humanoid and a wolf. Most of the people are afraid of them because of their strength and Sanies Lupinus – a disease that turns infected people into these bloody monsters.

Quote from Official Website:
We want you to be able to launch yourself into a frenzied killing spree and feel the uncontrollable strength granted to you by the transformation. As you can imagine, witnessing a werewolf reveal its true form is disturbing, and it’s certainly an event that will strike fear into those who happen to observe it.

How to become a Werewolf?

There is only one way to become Werewolf – you need to be bitten by another Werewolf and get the Sanies Lupinus disease. There are 2 general ways to get this disease and unlock Werewolf skills:

You need to find Werewolf NPC and encounter him. If you are lucky enough the NPC will infect you with Sanies Lupinus and you will be able to become Werewolf. Such NPCs are spawning in high level locations and you can be bitten only while fighting with them. After werewolf bites you a special quest will begin. This quest will help you to finish transformation.

When I played ESO I saw some Werewolves in Cyrodiiil. I don’t remember exact coordinates, but if I meet them once again I will attach a screenshot here. If you guys know where to find Werewolves - add comments.

The second way to become a Werewolf is to find another player who has already been infected with Sanies Lupinus and ask him to infect you. A player who can transform into a Werewolf can bite another player once every 7 days near a Ritual Site. After you are bitten, you will see Sanies Lupinus in your active effects and you will be able to take a special quest: Hircine’s Gift. This quest allows you to either become a Werewolf or remove the disease if you don’t want to join these monsters.

Take note that it’s impossible to bite a player infected with vampirism. There is no way to be Werewolf and Vampire simultaneously. You will have to make a choice. I recommend you to compare bonuses and disadvantages of each variant and make a decision. Don’t forget that you are not forced to become Werewolf or Vampire. It’s your choice.

Skills

After becoming a Werewolf players receive a special skill line not available to others. This skill line can be found in World Skills tab. The skills can be used while you are transformed into werewolf and can’t be used while you aren’t transformed.

Werewolf Transformation Ultimate
Pounce Active
Roar Active
Pursuit Passive
Blood Rage Passive
Devour Passive
Bloodmoon Passive
Savage Strength Passive
Call of the Pack Passive

Werewolf Transformation skill costs a lot of Ultimate energy and will occupy your ultimate slot. Thus, you may consider the transformation as your Ultimate ability. The transformation will make your character much more powerful, gaining extra stamina, armor, running speed, and attack damage. Attack damage is derived from your max stamina. You can’t use any other skills except those from the Werewolf skill line while you are transformed. You also can’t use your weapons. You become a beast and you fight like a beast, with your own claws and teeth.

Pounce is a great starting ability to leap into a crowd of enemies, fast attacking and stunning them.

Roar is a basic controlling spell that fears all targets within 6 meters. In PvP your opponent will lose control of his character and will not be able to attack you, while you can attack him without difficulties.

All active abilities consume Stamina and don’t use magicka at all. Thus you will have advantage if your character has a lot of stamina. As you see there are only 2 active abilities. That means you will have to deal general damage with your light and heavy attacks.

Advantages and Disadvantages of being a Werewolf

First of all, players receive a special skill line not available to others. These skills make them much more powerful than other players. The transformation adds stamina, armor, running speed, and attack damage. Morphed transformation makes these bonuses even better adding new effects like increased attack speed with every hit and applying bleeding DoT to target. Fearing players in PvP is also a very useful controlling ability.

Such a power increase may influence the balance and that’s why developers made the Fighters Guild skill line extremely powerful against werewolves. The "Skilled Tracker" passive allows all Fighters Guild skills to affect not only Undead and Daedra but also Werewolves. It is unknown if these skills affect you when you are not transformed, but it looks like they do.

The second heavy penalty is that Werewolf characters receive +50% poison damage regardless of whether or not they are transformed. Though there are only few poison skills in ESO right now: Poison Arrow and Lethal Arrow, almost all RDDs with bows are using these abilities.

Other Reasons to Become a Werewolf

Now that we've discussed the advantages and disadvantages let’s talk about other reasons to become a Werewolf. One of the most important reasons is the possibility to transform into a deadly beast right on the battlefield fearing all players around. Believe me, the transformation process looks menacingly and I bet that some of the players will be really surprised and shocked with this.

The other reason is that you receive a lot of roleplaying opportunities. You can create a Werewolf guild or group and hunt other players in PvP or monsters in dungeons. Such a guild or group will be extremely powerful. It’s also possible to make a special sacred ritual of accepting new members into the guild. Do you remember that a werewolf needs to bite a player in order to disease him? This may be used for roleplaying.

Werewolf or Vampire?

As you probably know, it’s also possible to become Vampire in ESO. But you can’t be Werewolf and Vampire simultaneously. You will have to choose. Both options offer exciting playing opportunities and are weak against Fighters Guild skills. But there are differences:

  • Werewolves’ skills consume only Stamina, while Vampires rely fully on Magicka and Ultimate.
  • Werewolves need to transform to be able to use the abilities, while Vampires don’t have a transformation ability. A Vampire is always Vampire, but receives penalties if it doesn’t feed.

Bringing more forms in the game, and more ways to play will make the game fantastic really. Although I am kind of afraid that might affect the balance in PvP, the same issue World of Warcraft is facing right now.

I also never played SkyRim before since it was not available on Mac, yes some people would argue that Macs are not for gaming. Pardon me, it is non of your business, I choose what I like. I got a friend who was so dedicated to the game, he told me you must try the ESO Beta. I got a Beta Key from ZAM Network and I jumped in, I too got addicted to the game in the Beta and hoping my friend would know how to turn us into werewolves as I am clueless right now :D

I preordered the Imperial Edition, can't wait for my Imperial Class, Imperial Horse, Imperial Gear and the RING!

MRizk, if you like playing Werewolves, I am sorry you missed out on playing them in Skyrim, (what a blast!), but glad you will now get your chance in ESO where they are going to get their own awesome skill line from the get-go! Now from this guide you and your friend will have a jump on knowing how to get to become a Werewolf, and who knows you may bite some of us. Hahaha :) Yes, pre-odering is certainly the way to go! Since you were in the ESO BETA Trials you will get a free Monkey by pre-ordering too. You have got it made! Have fun!

So by the looks of this guide you can only get turned into a werewolf by being bitten by another player? o,o
        1. Ambuaz 29 march 2014, 13:36 # 0
No, I believe this is not the only way. It looks like you can also become werewolf if other werewolf NPC will bite you. But the second way is not 100% confirmed yet.

I do really hope there's a way to become a werewolf through NPCs, otherwise how else are people going to become Werewolves if there's no other way for a player to become one?
            1. Ambuaz 29 march 2014, 16:13 # +1
You are absolutely correct. I just didn’t hear any information about this but when I find something I will correct the guide.

I have just added some new information about How To Become Werewolf. You may find it useful.
              2. Apple.Snowsong 17 april 2014, 04:41 # 0
Hi Kevin, that is a good question. Other players who are Werewolves will not be able to infect you until they can use Blood Moon Ritual, so if you do not have another player to infect you and you are in a hurry you can try to go get infected by Werewolf NPCs in the wilds. You may be dealing with Level 42 characters or more in the werewolf quests. I would not attempt this before Level 18 to 20 at the very least, but ideally it is not recommended till Level 38.
However if you are like me, you may tend to want to try to do things too early and sometimes die allot in the learning process. LOL :P If you feel you are ready to get infected early by wild werewolves though, here are some location tips:
NPC Werewolves and Vampires frequently spawn at the same locations, but at different times. Look in Reaper’s March (Aldmeri Dominion), Bangkorai (Daggerfall Covenant), and The Rift (Ebonheart Pact). Look for Werewolves close to full moons and vampires close to dark or new moons. So if you see vampires on the new moon at a particular place, that means to find werewolves instead; you can try to start coming back there on the day before the full moon, the full moon, and the day after the full moon to look for werewolves.

Werewolves spawned in the Rift at Eldbjorg’s Hideaway, and infected players on a Full Moon at about 11pm.
You can also get infected in Daggerfall, near the Viridian Woods Wayshrine.
Also SE of the Eastern Evermore Wayshrine, players have been infected, in some ruins there.

NPC Werewolves spawn in Reapers March on the main road below Rawl-kha who are capable of infecting you too… Once you’re bitten your werewolf quest can usually be found at the closest Wayshrine, in this case it can be found in Rawl-kha right next to the Wayshrine.

BTW If you are given a chance to fight a snake, a troll, or a mammoth for your werewolf quest, i heard the Troll is not only too tuff even for higher level players, but glitches requiring reloads etc etc, but the Mammoth is not glitchy and can be beaten. i have not tried the snake, and the Troll is glitchy, so for now i would pick the Mammoth to save myself time and headaches, but do as you please of course.

For those other players who have been infected, please feel free to leave the location in the comments for other players. :D

If someone bites you this is very easily done at lvl 15 I just did it last night on my lvl 15 nightblade all the mobs in the quest area were lvl 15 so I'm guessing they made it so the mobs are the same lvl add the person doing the quest

Is there a cure after you become a werewolf?
            1. Apple.Snowsong 17 april 2014, 03:59 # 0
Yes, you can be cured of Lycanthropy and give up being a Werewolf, if you change your mind. You’ll need to locate a Priest of Arkay, they are typically found within the Mage’s Guild Hall of the same city you received the quest to become a werewolf (or vampire) after being biten. The Priest will gladly cure you of being a werewolf or vampire for a gold fee, usually about 600 gold.

During the Beta, cures for Lycanthropy were here: for Daggerfall can be found in the city of Evermore, for Ebonheart they are in Riften, and in Aldmeri you can find them in Rawl’Kha. For example in the BETA, Prelate Sabinus found at the back of the Mages Guild in the city of Evermore (Daggerfall Faction) cures you of your condition for 600 gold.Aldmeri Dominion you want Prelate Sabinus in Rawl'kha, in Reaper's March at the back of the Mages Guild in the temple. She cures both Vampiries and Werewolves. I have not been able to double-check all these places since release, but i heard they still work. This makes sense because these are also in areas where you can still be infected nearby. But still the easiest way to figure out where to get cured is just to go to the Priest of Arkay, closest to where you yourself were bitten, of course.

              Greetings all.

First post! :) I have just picked up ESO (after the perpetual patching error shortly after launch which kept me from logging in 4 days straight I ditched the game entirely) en am finding my way through Daggerfall, Glenumbra. One of the quest involves slaying a Werewolf in the sewer/river area. Can his bite infect me with Sanies Lupinus?
              1. Ambuaz 18 march 2015, 09:57 # 0
Hello! I am afraid you will not be able to become infected from such quests. “Real” werewolves are spawning in high level locations and it's very difficult to find them. That's why it's very difficult to become Werewolf.

Can anyone bite me for free as a werewolf on xbox one gamertag: ManscorpionTark.

If you truly want to become a werewolf get someone to bite you while at the shrine seriously the hardest part for me was the long walk to the shrine as I don't have a mount someone bit me (for free)within 15 min of arriving at the shrine the quest was easily done and I was only lvl 15 the quest only took 10 min didn't die once easy stuff good luck to everyone who wants to become a werewolf… Beware have heard of allot of people charging for a bite then not biting people after they receive the gold

                        Hello,
I'm wondering what will happen to me if I initiate a werewolf transformation in front of other NPCs, such as characters who fight with me and all.
I want to ask because I don't want to end up on Tamriel's Most Wanted if you know what I mean.
Any input would be appreciated, thanks.
